We set another funding goal! Android tablet + graphic design added to the budget!
We are so thrilled to have reached our campaign goal before our deadline! Thank you again for your support in donating and spreading the word! None of this would be possible without you!!
When developing our budget, we made sure to only focus on the bare bones necessities to get us off the ground with one platform - Apple iOS. We had no idea that we would receive such an amazing response and excitement about this app! So we've updated our budget to include two more critical aspects to the development that we'll be able to utilize for this first phase of the app.
As we mentioned, we are aiming to make this app affordable (free) and utilize technology that is cost effective. We recognize that most students, citizen scientists and scientists-on-a-budget will not be able to purchase iPads and iDive housings. So we've been working to collaborate with other housing companies to find a budget-friendly alternative using budget-friendly tablets.
We will be developing the app for Android tablets too, and will require one tablet and one housing. Additionally, we need to pay our graphic artist for his time in illustrating additional fish that will be included in the free app. His time has been accounted for with our new goal, as well as the purchase of one Android tablet + housing for testing.
We will not be posting this new goal all over our social media as we want to give you guys a break from seeing our campaign plastered across Twitter, Instagram and Facebook - and in your inbox - and we are extremely grateful of even reaching our first goal before July 23. Instead, we will rely on you "backers" to spread the word if there is anyone else you feel would find this app fascinating -- and we'll count on those who discover it from you as well.
Crowdfunding has been an experience. It required a lot of time and energy in marketing, a lot of confidence in taking the leap to ask for support, and a lot of faith that the scientific community would see the merit in our project.
We have found a great community eager to see science made transparent and available to all. That's what we support, and thank you for sharing in that belief.
