72% Has Been Reached!

Hi everyone!

Thanks to all your generous donations, my project has reached 72% of its goal! Conservation International said they would cover any percentage not funded after this, so my project will be happening this May!

Of course, if you want to fund this project in the last two days, please do so! That way I can send you updates during my research in the future, showing you where your money has gone and where the manta ray is going! It is not too late to donate and follow this research on manta ray conservation.

Thank you to everyone for your support up to this point, I can't express how much I appreciate everything! I wouldn't be able to do great science without you.

Best,

Shannon

Hi Lynn! Sorry if my lab note was unclear - I was trying to imply that if you have not donated yet, I still encourage you to if you want to hear future updates about my research. I would love to share with everyone who has funded the progress of my research as it continues! Letting you know when I have tagged the manta ray, and it's movement patterns once I have analyzed all the data. If you have already funded this project (like yourself) and think others would be interested, I still encourage you to share this project with them! While Conservation International has agreed to fund the remaining percentage of my project, if others are still interested in getting involved, their donation is still encouraged! Best, Shannon

About This Project

My current research is focused on understanding the movement of reef manta rays around Papua New Guinea using satellite telemetry. Understanding the movement of this population can help justify the need for community-based marine protected areas and explore opportunities to promote eco-tourism. As global manta ray populations are decreasing due to expanding trade, the engagement of communities and protection of this elusive giant is crucial.

Blast off!
