Timeline Revised

Hi everybody!

So, due to an important, in-person meeting in Canada that I can't reschedule, I've had to somewhat revise the dates for this research trip to Peru. I will now leave Canada for Peru on April 15th, 2024 (arriving the next day, April 16th, 2024), and I will leave Peru for Canada on May 19th, 2024. The first night that I'm in Peru, I will be staying in a hotel in Puerto Maldonado. The next day, I'll catch the boat from Puerto Maldonado to Kawsay Biological Station. The same goes in reverse: my last night in Peru will be spent at that same hotel in Puerto Maldonado. This is what works best, what with the logistics of flights, boat schedules, etc.

Because of these changed dates, I've taken the liberty of revising my project milestones timeline. This revision balances what needs to be done with everything else that I have to do between now and leaving for Peru, and with how much time I have between now and leaving for Peru. If you're at all curious, my revised dates for everything are now displayed on my milestones timeline on my Experiment.com project webpage.

That's all for now!

Nick

The plant in the foreground is a so-called "money plant" (Pachira aquatica). They're native to Peru! I know, it's a tenuous link to tarantulas, at best, but I want to include a photo with each lab note, and didn't have anything for this one.

About This Project

Environmental parameters influence many aspects of an organism's life. However, animals that spend large portions of their lives underground remain understudied. We still don't know much about what the Amazon's iconic tarantulas get up to in the wild when no one is watching. I will monitor one of the largest tarantulas on the planet, the steely blue birdeater (Pamphobeteus antinous), and look at how temperature, humidity, and air pressure affect their movement.

Blast off!
