Could nations reach a historic agreement on the world's plastic production?

Today has been a momentous day as I read the news about the historic negotiations on plastic pollution in Paris. The significance of this event cannot be understated, as it has the potential to shape the future of our environment and the fight against plastic pollution. This agreement sounds exciting, but I consider it too complex to achieve due to the different interests of those countries in the game. However, desiring to find a solution is a big step.

The meeting brought together 175 nations committed to developing a legally binding agreement. They are waiting for a binding treaty by the end of 2024 that covers the entire life cycle of plastic and a first draft in the first five months. This deal demonstrates their determination to address the plastic crisis and find sustainable solutions.

I am deeply concerned about plastic pollution's current state and its detrimental impact on our planet. It is alarming to think that the annual production of plastic has doubled over the past 20 years, reaching a staggering 460 million tons. If we don't take immediate action, this number could triple by 2060. The scale of this problem is daunting, and it is high time for us to come together as a global community and find practical solutions.

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of this treaty. Plastic pollution is not an isolated issue; it intersects with the climate crisis and biodiversity loss, exacerbating their impacts. By tackling plastic pollution comprehensively, we can make significant progress in creating a more sustainable and resilient future. As I contemplate the magnitude of this global effort, I am reminded of the role each of us can play in making a difference. I am prouder than ever of projects like Biciola, which has a valuable part to play.

The Biciola project wants to put a grain of sand, playing an essential role in awareness and development of human behavior change, cleaning the beaches of microplastics, and understanding the problems of microplastics on sands and our oceans.I am very inspired and proud to be part of this initiative that is taking shape and will make a positive impact.

I am filled with hope and determination in the face of these historic negotiations. The commitment of these nations to address plastic pollution signifies a collective desire to protect our planet for future generations. While the road ahead may be challenging, I firmly believe that we can create a lasting impact by working together and supporting initiatives that raise awareness and drive change.

I am reminded of my personal responsibility to reduce plastic waste and advocate for sustainable practices in my daily life. We can bring the change we need through individual actions and collective efforts.

About This Project

Our team is developing a microplastic removal machine to filter and strain contaminated sand effectively. We call it Biciola, and we plan to build one machine and install it on a public beach in Venezuela. To test the bike, we will offer conservation talks to the community and encourage people to clean the beach through various incentives. These volunteers will provide us with valuable data. Biciola is a powerful tool for raising awareness among residents and bringing communities together.
