- Rebecca MatteBackerGood luck in your work. The gift is in honor of my sister, Sarah Whittaker Hall, a biologist who should be in the field.Jun 10, 20160
- Andrew SteinResearcherRebecca! Thank you so much for honoring your sister through our organization! We appreciate your support and thoughtful post.Jun 15, 20160
- adrianaBackerI`m so glad to be helping with this project!!Jun 09, 20160
- Andrew SteinResearcherThanks Adriana! We appreciate your support!Jun 15, 20160
- Bonnie LeFlore BackerThanks for all the updates. It's easy to see how learning about the individual lions and sharing their stories impacts perceptions. Is it possible to share information about some of the villagers who are active with the project...the kraal builders, Pro? I imagine the project has impacted their live and that you have all learned from them as well.Jun 05, 20160
- Andrew SteinResearcherBonnie, Great suggestion! We are working on it! Check back in a few days.Jun 06, 20160
- Ranney c grottaBackerI'll be in Botswana in August, on an unguided tour with 4 others-any chance I can visit? Without interfering with your work, of course (we are camping out often). Will be my 2nd trip-previously Malawi, Zambia.Jun 02, 20160
- Andrew SteinResearcherRanney, Where are you planning to go during your trip? Our camp is in Seronga which is a 7 hour drive each way from Maun (when the ferry is working- :) ). I will be in the field with students in early August, then as the rivers recede we get quite busy. Reply to my private message to discuss. Thank you for your support!Jun 02, 20160
- Cindy WuBackerLooking forward to the lion stories!May 31, 20160
- Andrew SteinResearcherThanks Cindy! Next Lion story up tomorrow, but I am posting a little story today from Eric's experience to stop a lion hunting party!Jun 02, 20160
- Bonnie LeFlore BackerIt's wonderful to see the pledged amount growing! Thanks for the update on Mayenga and the cubs.May 28, 20160
- Andrew SteinResearcherThank you Bonnie! More individual lion updates to follow!May 28, 20160
- Susan SheehyBackerYou are doing amazing work! My best wishes for great successes!May 25, 20160
- Andrew SteinResearcherSusan! Thank you so much for your support! I really enjoyed chatting with you at the fundraising dinner earlier this month. Hopefully we will see you out in Botswana sometime soon!May 26, 20160
- Bonnie LeFlore BackerThanks for the update, Andrew. Looking forward to hearing more about Mayenga and the cubs and the project in general. Needless to say, I have followed Eric's blog and your project site, but somehow this site and being able to participate in the fundraising effort makes it all really come to life in a new way. Kudos to you and the team on the very meaningful and important work you are all doing. Thank you for the opportunity to contribute.May 25, 20160
- Andrew SteinResearcherBonnie, thanks for reaching out and supporting our work. As you know better than most, Eric has put so much into this project- getting it running in the field and helping it grow. This is our first venture into crowdfunding and we are excited to see the response and receive your feedback! Thank you for your interest and continued support!May 25, 20160
- Barbara ImgrundBackerWishing you loads of luck for your project. We all should be proud of the lions we have left in this world.May 25, 20160
- Andrew SteinResearcherHi Barbara! What we are finding is that once people know more about the individual animals in their midst, they do show some pride in them. These are their lions! Though based in biological data collection, much of our work is really an experiment in social sciences. Will tolerance increase (with fewer lions killed) if people know individuals? We believe that this can make a huge difference! Thank you for your support.May 25, 20160
- Charles J FraserBackerI read Eric LeFlore's blog and am enthused by the projectMay 24, 20160
- Andrew SteinResearcherCharles, Thanks for the note. Eric helped start the project and he has made tremendous inroads with the community including his blog post about diffusing a lion hunting party that was about to exact retribution for cattle loss. Our program is designed specifically to generate trust between researchers and the community by direct, transparent communication. Eric's efforts likely saved a lion that night! Thanks for following and supporting our project!May 24, 20160
- Donna L. HarpsterBackerCongratulations, Andrew. How much time do you spend in the field now? DonnaMay 22, 20160
- Andrew SteinResearcherHi Donna! Thank you for your support. So great to hear from you. Most of my time these days is teaching at small college in New England, but I spend between a few weeks to a few months in the field every year. Now, I have an exceptional team that are building the project with me. It is quite amazing to see how it is taking shape and the response we have received so far from the villagers. We expect that there will be challenges, but so things are going quite well. I hope all is well with you!May 23, 20160
- Mary JustBackerMy first trip to Africa last year is a treasured experience. Meeting Eric and learning of his team's efforts to balance life in the bush for animals and people to thrive....priceless! So I donated and hope you will read their story!May 19, 20160
- Andrew SteinResearcherMary, Thank you for your support! Eric has helped initiate and establish our program. We appreciate your interest and support in keeping our efforts going. Having seen the area, you know first hand how special it is! Thank you again!May 19, 20160
- Stuart MunroBackerHope the funding goes well - will spread the word as far as I can. Stubee.May 19, 20160
- Andrew SteinResearcherStuart! Thanks for your support! Also, great working with you on the Leopard Translocation paper- directed by Flo! We are excited to have Flo in the field now- he is already directing his boundless energy towards streamlining our field efforts and systematizing our data analysis! Distribute widely- thanks. I hope you are well! AndrewMay 19, 20160
