This Privacy Policy (the “Privacy Policy”) describes how and when Experiment collects, uses, and shares your information when you use our site. Our Services are primarily designed to help you discover and fund Projects. Some of the information you provide us is information you are asking us to make public.

Registering an Account: When you create an Experiment account, you provide some personal information, such as your name, username, password, and email address. Some of this information, for example, your name and username, is listed publicly, including on your profile page, project page, and in search results. Some Services, such as search, public user profiles, and viewing projects, do not require registration.
Creating a Campaign: If you are creating a Project Page, you may provide us with profile information to make public, such as a short biography, your geographic location, your website, institutional affiliation, or a picture. We may use your contact information to send you information about our Services. You may use your account settings to unsubscribe from notifications from Experiment. You may also unsubscribe by following the instructions contained within the notification or the instructions on our website.
Creating a Contribution: When you pledge a donation to a project, you provide a name and avatar. If you choose to hide this information, you can remain publicly anonymous so that your name, username, and picture are not listed on the Project Page, but are still accessible to the project creator and other third-party services, for example when it comes time to charge the donation.
Project Creator Verification: Sometimes for verification purposes before launching a Project Page, or in order to complete a project funds payout, we'll gather your address, date of birth, photo identification (e.g. government issued verification card), and bank account information. This data is preserved in case a project payout fails and needs to be retried, or the project creator wishes to change the the payout methods (e.g. receiving a check in the mail or an electronic funds transfer).
Contacting Site Staff: If you email us with a comment, question, or complaint, we may keep your message, email address and contact information to respond to your issue.
Commenting on a Public Forum: When you leave a comment or endorsement on a Project Page, you may provide a picture avatar and your name.

We receive Log Data when you interact with our Services, for example, when you visit our websites, sign into our Services, interact with our email notifications, use your account to authenticate to a third-party website or application, or visit a third-party website that includes an Experiment button or widget. Experiment uses Log Data to provide our Services and to measure, customize, and improve them.
If you connect your Experiment account to your account on another service in order to cross-post between Experiment and that service, the other service may send us your registration or profile information on that service and other information that you authorize. This information enables cross-posting, helps us improve the Services, and is stored to provide a faster user experience.
We offer social sharing features that let you share content or actions you take on our services with other media. Your use of these features enables the sharing of certain information with your friends or the public, depending on the settings you establish with the third party that provides the social sharing feature. Data Retention: We will retain your personal information for the length of time needed to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. Service Providers: We engage service providers to perform functions and provide services to us in the United States and abroad. Academic Analysis: We may share Non-Personal Information and aggregated information with third parties for academic or research purposes. No Personal Information will be shared in this manner.
Business Transfers: In the event that Experiment is involved in a bankruptcy, merger, acquisition, reorganization or sale of assets, your information may be sold or transferred as part of that transaction. The promises in this Privacy Policy will apply to your information as transferred to the new entity.

Your Consent: We may share or disclose your information at your direction, such as when you request tax receipt information from previously funded projects. This information includes your name, email, username, and address. This information is only shared when explicitly requested by you.

Upon receiving notice that you have revoked your consent, we will stop using your Personal Information within a reasonable time, which will vary depending on what information we have collected and for what purpose. Please note that we will send you an email confirmation upon receipt of your request. Therefore, if you do not receive a confirmation email, please contact us again with your request. If you do choose to withdraw such consent, your experience on the website may be diminished, or your ability to choose some of the options on the website or the services provided therein may be limited.
Modifying Your Personal Information: If you are a registered user of our Services, we provide you with tools, such as on your account settings page to view or edit the personal information you provided to us and associated with your account.
Experiment does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13 and children under 13 are not permitted to register for an account or use our Services. If you believe that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@experiment.com. If we become aware that a child under age 13 has provided us with personally identifiable information, we’ll delete it.
We do not knowingly process data of EU residents under the age of 16 without parental consent. If we become aware that we have collected data from an EU resident under the age of 16 without parental consent, we will take reasonable steps to delete it as quickly as possible. We also comply with other age restrictions and requirements in accordance with applicable local laws.
The security, integrity, and confidentiality of your information are extremely important to us. We have implemented technical, administrative, and physical security measures that are designed to protect User information from unauthorized access, disclosure, use, and modification. We regularly review our security procedures to consider appropriate new technology and methods.
The information that we collect from you may be transferred to and stored at a destination outside the European Economic Area including to Japan, US and Canada. Your Information may also be processed by staff operating outside the EEA who work for us or for one of our suppliers.
