There are several factors contributing to this crowd funding campaign-- one is that I enjoy making science a community effort. I think I might have been able to wrangle $3K toward the genetic data, but I like it when science is more broadly supported. Also, plant conservation biology is woefully underfunded-- plants just aren't as charismatic as Pandas, for example. So I wanted to raise awareness of this. Finaly, while a huge (and I do mean huge) data set in genomics is now available for low cost, it's still about $7K or more, and for a grad student, that's a big hurdle. Especially considering that I'm also doing a molecular phylogeny. Anyway, I deeply appreciate your support!Dec 03, 20170
