- Stephen McKeownVery glad to hear about this project. I've kept a sun conure for 15 years now and am very concerned about their status in the wild. What annoys me is the irresponsible breeding of mutations in captivity to provide colour variations. I suspect this is partly done by inbreeding/backcrossing where recessive genes are expressed, to the detriment of individuals/the species. However, having a sensible conversation with these folks is very difficult. I have been involved in wildlife conservation since 1985 in a professional capacity and would love to make some contribution (not financial - I'm poor!) to Sun Conure conservation.Aug 04, 20221
