11% TO GO!

Progress report of the Experiment.com online fundraiser as of 21 May 2023.

21 May 2023

Bluffton, South Carolina

We have 11% to go... Your support helps in three discrete ways, (1) to aid in the discovery of alternative therapeutics for Chagas' disease, (2) to jump start two students who joined my lab at a time when most funding mechanisms are currently in the off season, and (3) you directly support my laboratory's momentum. The time needed for undergraduates involved in research is very critical so by getting this funding in now, it will make a big impact on their productivity. Myself, Carson, and Destiny are sincerely very thankful for your generosity.

About This Project

The etiological agent for Chagas' disease is the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, which affects 6 - 7 million people primarily in Latin America. The chronic stage of infection causes cardiomyopathy and the enlargement of other organs resulting in disease burden and death. There is an urgent need to replace the clinical therapeutics (benznidazole & nifurtimox) and this proposal focuses on a compound screen to observe a hit expansion with the target T. cruzi glucokinase.
