How we'll use our Experiment funding

First, a very big thank you to everyone who has supported our project. We are all pleased that we reached our goal and excited to start planning this phase of our project. We have a trip to our project site in Vanuatu planned for late November, when we'll be meeting with the monitoring Champions to discuss how the monitoring is going, and what the priorities are for using the information. Now that we have the Experiment funding, we're also going to ask the Champions what resources the monitors need to ensure routine fish catch surveys, review the data collected so far, and provide some extra training on entering and analysing the fish catch data.

Its a very exciting time, as we now know we can support the resource monitors and Champions to conduct regular fish catch surveys, ensure the data is stored in a central database, and use the information to understand how sustainable current fishing practices are. Ultimately, we'll be able to support the resource monitors and Champions to use the fish catch information to make management decisions about their fishing practices, and what species and sizes of fish they target.

Again, thank you everyone and stay tuned for our next update on how your funding has helped our project.

About This Project

C2O coasts, climate, oceans

Coral reefs support marine animals, including fish & shellfish that Pacific communities use for food. We are working with communities to collect data on reef condition, fish populations and fish catches. The data will help us understand reef changes from recent cyclone, predation and bleaching damage, and develop local monitoring tools that can inform local actions to improve reef health and promote sustainable fishing so reefs continue to provide food for communities.

Blast off!
