Infrared Thermometer Data Logger Calibrated

Hi everyone. So, this "Milestone" update is slightly misleading in its title. Technically, my calibration method provided unsatisfactory results, so I'm quickly trying something else. I have a lot to cram in here in the last few days before I leave for Peru. This wasn't by design: equipment, etc. has given me more trouble than I expected. Nevertheless, the infrared thermometer data logger itself is completely up and running now, and I wanted to get this Milestone off my experiment.com to-do list.

My thanks go to my friend Jacobus Burger (who will be a co-author on this, if any of this research ever makes it to publication), who designed circuits for, soldered, and programmed the infrared thermometer data logger.

That's all for now.

About This Project

Environmental parameters influence many aspects of an organism's life. However, animals that spend large portions of their lives underground remain understudied. We still don't know much about what the Amazon's iconic tarantulas get up to in the wild when no one is watching. I will monitor one of the largest tarantulas on the planet, the steely blue birdeater (Pamphobeteus antinous), and look at how temperature, humidity, and air pressure affect their movement.

Blast off!
