Thanks so much to all of our supporters!!

We did it, we hit our $6000 funding goal thanks to your help.

Just as things have gotten crazy here in the field, you, our supporters stepped up and pushed us over the $6000 mark and gave us the psychological and financial boost we needed. Thanks again!

"Pancho", one of the chicks we were able to assist with YOUR help. THANK YOU!

Fortunately, we still have a few days left in the campaign and we still have plenty of work to do here in Peru. Unexpectedly our refrigerator has made it clear that it is on its last legs. In addition, the work with the chicks has required even more equipment and manpower than originally stipulated, so we are truly hoping to continue to raise funds beyond the stated goal.

As a result, please continue to spread the word and join the success! Help us push past our goal and help us fund our unexpected contingencies that we have been facing here in Peru.

Once again thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Donald Brightsmith

Congratulations on reaching your goals! I sure hope more contributions are made. Thank you all for fighting so hard for these chicks and the entire macaw population! I really have enjoyed the updates too. Happy New Year!

About This Project

Wild Scarlet Macaw populations are declining due to the illegal trade and habitat loss. Although Scarlet Macaws lay 2-4 eggs, macaw parents will only feed the 1st and 2nd chick, while the others starve to death. We will develop techniques to increase survival of these chicks by moving them into new nests with no chicks, or only 1 chick. Our research suggests that the new parents will adopt and care for their new chicks, allowing them to reach maturity and fledge from the nest.

Blast off!
