Training Day

Today we trained the staff at the clinic in nearby Las Flores who will be assisting us with data collection throughout the duration of the study. The training was a collaboration between faculty from UNITEC in Tegucigalpa and Water Mission offices in Honduras and the US, and included an overview of the study, the sanitation technology being employed, and the survey itself. For Water Mission, community engagement is a key component to any project - including our project evaluations and research studies.

The clinic staff were quite excited to see they would be collecting data on tablets instead of paper - and they had fun answering the questions and taking photos and GPS coordinates within the survey.

After a successful training, we will begin data collection in the community of Las Mercedes tomorrow.

This week we will return to the households we surveyed last year to gather additional data, and will be enrolling new families in the study. I look forward to updating this project from the field as the week goes by!

About This Project

Water Missions International

The project includes construction of 80 household latrines in two Honduran communities. In the pilot we are conducting baseline surveys with families on sanitation and hygiene practices, authoritative sources of knowledge, and what factors they consider important in their toilet. This will help development practitioners to understand the risks and success indicators for ecological models of sanitation.

Blast off!
