Welcome to the project!

Dear backers - welcome to the project! I am so very thankful for all the support you have given, and I am happy to announce that as of right this minute we have reached 17% of the goal with 42 backers!

It takes a village to fundraise and I appreciate so much the joint effort that has so far been put into this! The show of support has made me even more determined to push forward, than I already was. I look very much forward to continue this journey and I am so happy to share this with all of you.

As I am writing this, I am mentally preparing for next week, where I will be presenting the research that has become the foundation of the project you are all supporting now. I will be presenting it at the Zoo and Wildlife Health Conference 2019 in Kålmorden Zoo in Sweden. I will have a time slot of 11 minutes to show what we have been doing and I plan to also use a minute on this project, to spread the word and hopefully find even more amazing backers!

Stay tuned for more updates througout the project campaign, I am so stoked to be able to share it with you!

Below is a section of the conference programme - it seems a bit silly but I got really nervous and very excited when I saw my name there!

About This Project

Toxicants of human origin are a growing concern to conservation. Lead (Pb) is a toxicant that accumulates in the body over time. It has no biological function and can cause many negative health effects over time. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that there are no safe levels of lead in the body.

The brown bear is exposed to lead through scavenging. We will investigate the impact of lead on the health of wild brown bears and identify predictable blood changes (biomarkers) of toxicity.

Blast off!
