We are experiencing technical difficulties, please stand by.

Hi everyone!

If you've been keeping track of my timeline of project "Milestones", as listed on my Experiment.com project webpage (this is a big if, and assumes you're a stickler for details like myself), you'll know that I was supposed to have the infrared thermometer data logger calibrated by March 23rd, 2024 (i.e., today). Unfortunately, I've run into issues with the equipment that mean it won't be up and running and ready to be calibrated for a little while longer. Don't worry: I will definitely still have this data logger ready in time for my trip to Peru.

Speaking of technical difficulties: you may have noticed that the pictures that I attach to my "Lab Notes" are sometimes rotated, or even upside down! I don't know why this is. I have reached out to the Experiment.com team for technical assistance regarding this.

That's all for now.

Cheers,

Nick

Take a deep breath Nick! Science doesnt always run to our modern timelines. Do what you have to do. It will be fine.

About This Project

Environmental parameters influence many aspects of an organism's life. However, animals that spend large portions of their lives underground remain understudied. We still don't know much about what the Amazon's iconic tarantulas get up to in the wild when no one is watching. I will monitor one of the largest tarantulas on the planet, the steely blue birdeater (Pamphobeteus antinous), and look at how temperature, humidity, and air pressure affect their movement.

Blast off!
