Is human sleep affected by the moon cycle?

Whenever I hear mainstream sleep advice that any tiny amount of light exposure will ruin my health, I always wonder how such a requirement could have evolved when we've always been exposed to the moon. I'm very excited about this project.

Remember the wonderful line from the play "Our Town" (from the character named Emily, as she stared out her bedroom window at the full moon, speaking in awe to herself and her future husband, who lived next door and was also looking out his window): "Isn't the moon terrible?"
