MEMORY TESTING
Amelia will use the Context Object Discrimination (COD) task to assess memory in her rats. The COD task allows rats to explore two different contexts - A and B in the picture below. The rats explore two identical objects in Context A (circle) and two identical objects that are different in Context B (square). Each rats explores each context for 5 minutes each day for 2 days. On Day 3, an object from Context B replaces one of the objects in Context A, so the circle context contains one oval object and one square object. Then the rat explores the circle context for 5 minutes. Rats who have intact memory will explore the square objects for more time because the square object has never been in the circle context.
