Frequently Asked Questions

How do challenge grants work?

Challenge grants are sponsored prizes. We will accept proposals for campaigns related to botany, and all the campaigns will launch together on September 27th, 2016. The project that ends with the highest number of backers will receive an additional $500 towards its campaign. There are two runners-up prizes of $200 each.

When will the grant be awarded?

On October 27th at 5PM PT, the prizes will be awarded according to the posted schedule.

Can I still submit a project?

We are no longer accepting projects for this grant, however we will be launching many more challenge grant opportunities. Sign up for our mailing list for up-to-date community news.

Please Note:

If we see suspicious acitivity of researchers or backers potentially cheating during the challenge, the project will be completely disqualified from winning the grant.

Challenge Aims

Experiment is launching a new botany grant challenge to support research studying plants. We hope to highlight the diversity of projects in botany including the study of the physiology, structure, genetics, ecology, distribution, classification, and economic importance of plants.

The challenge is not limited to those topics and we welcome any interdisciplinary projects. Please get in touch with our team if you'd like to talk about your project idea. We are accepting approximately 15 projects to launch their Experiment crowdfunding campaigns later in September. The projects with the highest number of backers will receive extra awards on top of their raised funds.

Submissions are due on September 13th, 2016.

Project Eligilibity

Any project working on some aspect of botany is invited to apply. Field work may take place anywhere in the world, but researchers must be based out of institutions or organizations in the US, UK, Australia, or Canada, or else receive permission from us to submit.
