One Week Update

Not much is more amazing than seeing a condor adrift mere meters from you, but the support we have received in just one week comes pretty close! A huge THANK YOU to everyone that has donated or shared our campaign to get the word out. We are currently 78% funded with 22 days left in the campaign.

This week I am hard at work writing proposals to fulfill paperwork requirements at the facilities we're interested in working with. We write about our research questions, how we will answer them, and how we will ensure that no condors are harmed in the making of this research.

Last week I was inspired to draw up a logo for our project! Please note that the condor and microbes are not to scale.

About This Project

Wild animal microbiomes have received minimal research and we often don’t know what constitutes a "healthy" microbiome for these species. Such knowledge is especially important for the conservation of vultures, which rely on their specialized guts to neutralize toxins. My goal is to identify the microbial partners (aka microbiome) of California Condors at the chick and adult stage and identify external factors that influence microbiome composition and diversity across individuals.
