Level 1: Pledge Target Achieved

The research team (Monal, Chin, Viliame) is ecstatic to share that in just 3 days of launching our proposal, our project reached its pledge goal! It is our first time utilising crowdfunding to assist in funding a project and we are blown away by the support we have received thus far. We would like to extend our gratitude to our backers and also those that shared the project link on their social media. Thank you so much! We would like to thank Prof. Joeli Veitayaki, Mr. Lekima Copeland, Mr. Esaroma Ledua and Mr. Jasha Dehm for endorsing our project and for their continuing support.

The research team is now feverntly ramping up planning and we will be adjusting the timeline, more updates to come as the project starts picking up momentum. We will keep each of you updated with our progress, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, collaboration aspirations or funding - we welcome hearing from our project followers.

We would like to also share that due to the amount of attention that our project is gaining, we have been invited to share our project on radio (ABC Australia, Pacific Beat program). We are excited to share the potential of this study with the listeners of the program and we will provide the link of the interview on here as it is released. Watch this space!

About This Project

Edible oysters are a traditional food item in coastal communities in Fiji. Despite this, little is known about the edible oyster species present in the country, their taxonomy, indigenous traditional knowledge and their aquaculture potential for coastal communities. This study attempts to address key biological knowledge gaps to inform sustainable aquaculture and wild fishery management efforts for building climate-resilient coastal communities in the Rewa Delta, Fiji.
