And here's Jessica Chandler...

I've known Jessica for close to two years, as both a friend and work colleague at the University of South Carolina. As soon as you meet Jessica you will be told two things:

1) How much she loves the Tennessee Volunteers!

2) How much she loves her dog, Duke!

One of Jessica's redeeming qualities is that she is willing to help anyone, with anything, and at anytime! Jessica is one of those people that you can rely on to do things accurately and with 100% commitment - I witnessed this first hand last summer as she played a significant role in a research project I was conducting...she's a trooper!!

As a keen researcher in the field of children's physical activity, Jessica is unique in the sense that she can see the bigger picture - and put science in to practice. Her area of interest (apart from her dog and beloved Vols) focuses on the measurement of children's physical activity in real world settings. Hence, Jessica's role in camp this year is vital to improving the experiences of children attending in future years. With the information we collect, Jessica can inform our team on how successful our intervention was in getting the children more active.

Jessica is a valuable member of our Camp Mates team and we're looking forward to another great summer at Camp!

About This Project

Youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other Developmental Disabilities (DD) have a higher risk of being obese, more sedentary, and participate in less physical activity than typically developing (TD) peers. We are seeking to develop modifications to physical activity games for TD youth that are appropriate for kids with ASD. These will be in the form of social stories and videos that are simple for staff to use and for kids with ASD to understand.

Blast off!
