What's up with the stretch goals?
Dear Backers,
I'm super grateful to all of you for supporting my mission to find out more about ukulele plucking hand techniques! You are truly amazing!
After reaching the base goal within breathtaking 4 days, I was able to implement stretch goals. Now, experiment.com is an all-or-nothing platform, which means, if we hadn't made the base goal, I wouldn't have gotten anything at all. So I decided to start with an achievable goal, that would already help me loads and once on the safe side of things, I could stretch the wings of this project a bit. There's a German expression about a sparrow in your hand being better than swallow on a roof, so that's what I went with.
Every dollar funded now, will help me with housing costs at the East-West-Center, which is located right by the University of Hawai'i Manoa. Apparently, it's a small campus right by the main campus, but the Center is not part of the university itself. It hosts conferences and houses traveling scholars, like myself. (I have to say, I do get a kick out of the term 'traveling scholar'...).

The East-West-Center not only provides housing for traveling scholars, it's also a place for cultural exchange and research. I'm really excited and looking forward to various events there. The center is mostly focused on socio-economic and environmental fields of research and does provide fellowships and other support for scholars from those departments. Hopefully, there's going to be a way to connect with researchers from other areas.
Meanwhile, I'm in the process of editing and analyzing video material I've collected in Europe (yes, this project has been going on for a while and will entail more than just the Hawaiian techniques). This process is providing a valuable framework for my work on Hawaii and will make the data gathered there conclusive.
Much Aloha,
Elisabeth
