We Did It!

We made our funding goal! With 4 hours to go we passed the 100% funding mark!

Thank you all so much for your contributions. It wouldn't have been possible without all of your help. A few of you even increased your donations throughout the drive which was a huge help. I'm really glad to have you as part of the team.

I would especially like to thank the donor who provided the $1,000 matching donation. At that point the fundraising was looking pretty sluggish and their matching donation really helped to put some momentum behind us. Also, I'd like to thank our partner Ecologists Without Borders who were generous enough to provide the last few dollars to put us over the edge last night.

I'm excited to have all of you involved in the project from here on out. The genius of Experiment is that I can continue to update you on our progress as the project moves along. I know that most of you donated because you are interested in the science, so I'm looking forward to letting you know how the project unfolds.

That said...you can see on the project timeline that there may be a significant amount of time before anything big happens. We still need to arrange the shipment of samples from Brazil, which will take time. But rest assured that as soon as we have any news to share I will publish a lab note to let you all know what is happening.

Please, keep in touch and feel free to start a discussion on the project page.

Thanks again for all of your generosity. It's humbling. The whole team is excited that you were interested enough in this work to help make it happen.

Sincerely,

Jens Hegg

About This Project

EN / PT

Sawfish are one of the most endangered fish in the world, and Atlantic tarpon are considered vulnerable. Both fish move into salty and fresh water, but we don't understand these movements. Knowing more could help identify ways to protect both species. Luckily, tarpon scales and sawfish rostral teeth store chemistry that can reconstruct the movements they make. We hypothesize that teeth and scales will allow is to reconstruct the movements of both fish in a non-lethal way.

Blast off!
