Hi Backers!

We didn't forget about you or our research. We are waiting for the daytime temperatures in Huntsville, TX, to dip below 90oF before we start to build the sheds. We don't want anyone to become part of the research as subjects instead of as scientists due to heat stroke. Or do we... Just Joking! HAHA!

Until we begin building, just a few updates.

The Fall semester 2016 is underway and we have a great team of student researches, as usual. Some have graduated, some have returned, and some are new. We say good bye with bittersweet feelings to our graduates and wish you luck in your future but we will miss you. We say thank you to all those who have returned to help us our for yet another semester. We say welcome to all of our new people.

We are actively working with our collaborators in California and in Colorado and should be publishing those data soon.

We are working with a scholar from Romania who we hope will be here as part of the Fullbrite program and will be helping us out with the indoor decomposition studies.

We are also gearing up for our fall conference circuit and this month will be giving three talks  at the entomology meetings in Orlando!

We will keep you all posted.

Until then, here is a dance we do to appease the research gods (and to remember our sampling sites!)

About This Project

We study how communities of insects and bacteria inhabiting human cadavers change through time. This pattern of change, or succession, is orderly and predictable and can be used to estimate the time since death (TSD) at a crime scene. We predict that local aspects of the environment, such as rainfall or enclosure, can influence interactions between insects and bacteria. By understanding these aspects, we can better predict how insects and bacteria will be affected and better estimate the TSD.

Blast off!
