Thanks again!

Hi folks --- From our team, thank you sincerely for your donations to fuel our preclinical research efforts. With the proposed Experiment, we found minimal efficacy of repeated clavulanic acid injections against the reinforcing effects of cathinone-derived MDPV. However, we and others are in continuous exploration of novel agents that demonstrate therapeutic value in managing psychostimulant use disorders. If interested, some of our teammates have discussed therapeutic avenues against addictions to synthetic cathinones, including regulation of glutamate transmission, in a review article which is amended to this Lab Note. Remaining funds from the Experiment will be donated to the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation which strives to promote understanding of how neural circuits govern behaviors and disease states. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions or comments, and again thank you for making our first crowdfunding effort a success! Sincerely, SS

About This Project

Addictions to cocaine and other stimulant 'designer' drugs remain unaided by pharmacotherapies. Several decades of work support the use of agents that augment neurochemistry (e.g., dopamine and glutamate transmission) to normalize reward- and mood-governing pathways that become dysregulated following chronic stimulant use. An unexplored but promising route is to test clinically-available antibiotics in models of mood and addiction to holistically evaluate their therapeutic potential.
