We. Are. GO!

Well, we managed to get the funding we need to proceed with the project.

I'd like to thank everyone who help us get to this point. Family, friends and strangers certainly dug deep to make sure we can find out a little bit more about why people continue to believe things that simply aren't true.

Very shortly I'll be able to give an update on the data collection and hopefully some initial results, but for now I'd just like to say...

About This Project

Why is fake news so popular? It is partly because people often accept any information that supports their beliefs - even if it is totally wrong.

This project seeks to measure the motivated numeracy effect outside the United States for the first time, so we fight the rise of fake news.

The motivated numeracy effect is a type of motivated reasoning where people refuse to acknowledge data if it doesn't support their pre-existing beliefs.
