Our first input into the NTD database

Dear backers,

Since our last update, we've been hard at work as we continue to move forward on our NTD data sharing project.

As you can imagine, collaborations like this one have many moving parts and stakeholders. We're doing our best to continue moving this initiative forward productively.

Related to these efforts, I do have an exciting development.

In late 2014, our group published a research paper in the journal PLOS-Neglected Tropical Diseases, presenting hundreds of such starting points for potentially treating Human African trypanosomiasis, or sleeping sickness, a deadly NTD that affects thousands of people annually.

Our findings from this research was the first data deposited into the portal that your funds have helped to support!

Until next time, we'll keep you posted.

-Mike

About This Project

Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) infect over a billion of the poorest people in the world, yet only a tiny fraction of all drug discovery efforts is focused on this. There is little sharing of data across labs working in this area, leading to duplication of effort and precious time and money wasted. We are piloting a new data sharing model for NTD drug discovery that will help speed treatments for these diseases that disable and kill so many.
