Funding amendment

We wanted to give everybody an update regarding a reduction in our proposed project budget. When we initially budgeted for this project, we anticipated the need to purchase a new sampling gill net. However, we were informed that we can use a gill net from one of our ongoing GCRL projects. Because of this, we have opted to lower our initial project goal. Although we can borrow this sampling gear, we plan on using any additional funds beyond our new project goal towards the purchase of a gill net that can be dedicated to this study. Please keep tuned as we will be posting some interesting preliminary results in the upcoming days.

Best regards,

Chris and Justin

About This Project

Center for Fisheries Research and Development, The University of Southern Mississippi

Spotted seatrout (Cynoscion nebulosus) is the most popular recreational species along the coast of Mississippi. Although we have a general understanding about the prey species spotted seatrout eat, stomach contents of fish collected during the day are often too digested to identify beyond broad categories like fish or shrimp. We will sample spotted seatrout from the late evening to early morning, a time believed to be their most active feeding period.
