Sofia Shewfelt is a 2nd year student at the University of Chicago majoring in Molecular Engineering on the Bioengineering track and pursuing a minor in Molecular, Cellular, and Tissue Engineering. She assisted in research at Argonne National Laboratory, where she synthesized NLS peptides for Tb-155 radiopharmaceutical development at Argonne National Lab. Prior to this, she spent time in the Northwestern University Gray Lab researching graphene oxide for water purification and the antibacterial properties of PANI-TiO2. As a long time vegetarian, she is interested in alternative protein for its potential to revolutionize the meat industry. As a scientist, she is fascinated by its tissue engineering applications. In her free time, she enjoys rowing with UChicago’s club crew team, baking, sewing, and spending time outdoors with her friends and family.
