As a longtime naturalist and wildlife interpreter with many at-sea missions in the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary, I have become intimately familiar with the plight of our humpback whales in this delicate, protected ecosystem.
The effects of climate change and increased vessel traffic in this region pose a threat to their health and survival. This study helps us listen in on what's happening beneath the surface and gives us better insight as to how human-made ocean noise is affecting their foraging and migratory behaviors.
I fully endorse the SeaSounds Project and have every confidence that the BayQuest team can carry out this vital mission of acoustic science and discovery.
