A veterinarian, graduated in 2015 from Universidade Federal da Bahia (Brazil); Dr. Patterson Rosa was a horse rider, trainer, and professional showjumper for years before she started Vet School. Horses were always her passion. In 2013, she did a Summer internship at the Brooks Equine Genetics Lab at Cornell through the Merial Veterinary Investigator Program and fell in love with horse genetics, ultimately coming to University of Florida in 2015 to pursue a Ph.D. under Dr. Samantha Brooks guidance. Currently, her research focus on the genetic causes of equine congenital idiopathic anhidrosis (non-sweaters) and neurogenetics of four-beat locomotion patterns. Dr. Patterson Rosa has also worked on genome wide association of Metabolomics data and conformation traits in Arabian horses, and assisted with research in phenotype collection in behavior assessments in American Quarter Horses. She has also helped develop and translate (Portuguese/Brazil) our Horse Genetics online short-course, an easy to use, accessible, extension program to update horse owners and breeders in the latest information on Horse Genetics.
