Charlotte Abel

I'm a researcher whose work bridges medical sociology, science and technology studies, and public health. Reproductive Justice is the theory and praxis that guides my work.

I use mixed-methods to evaluate medical and public-facing institutions, and believe that research should not only generate knowledge, but center those most impacted and translate into real-world change. Currently completing my PhD at UCLA, my dissertation is an ethnography of a reproductive psychiatry clinic that examines how reproductive and mental health care is shaped by policy, risk, and ideas of expertise. I'm passionate about translating complex research to diverse and global audiences-- as a highly effective communicator, I teach, present publicly and have written my findings into reports that have been published in academic journals and policy briefs. My work is grounded in collaboration, ethical rigor, and a commitment to equity.

When I'm not working on my PhD, I work as a postpartum doula to directly support the family's whose stories I centralize in my research.
