From Honolulu with Love
So, I've arrived on Wednesday night here in Honolulu, after a somewhat adventurous journey through Vancouver (if you ever transit through Canada, know, that you need an ETA...). Until I safely arrived and settled at Lincoln Hall there were a few uphill battles to be fought (my credit card wouldn't work at first, some dates got mixed up, etc...), but everyone was very welcoming and helpful. And now, it's all good, everything's set up and I even bought a rice cooker.
My first research related activity was meeting Dr. Byron Yasui for lunch on Thursday. As per usual, when something is extraordinarily enjoyable and interesting I forgot to take pictures with him. He gave me a whole set of recommendations who to contact for my research and I've set up dates and made contact with more people. There are a few interviews lined up, but I decided to tell you about them after the meetings have happened, as to not jinx it.
Then I came down with my obligatory aircon cold and spent a day resting in my room at Lincoln Hall. I'm almost fully recovered now and am sitting here with other writers in a writing meetup with three shirts on while everyone else is wearing t-shirts.
So all in all, I'm quite happy with my start here in Honolulu and feel quite confident and hopeful that I'm going to make good progress.
If anyone knows of more writing groups (online or offline) that I can hang out with, please let me know. I find it infinitely helpful to sit in a space with people who all do a similar thing.
