We made it!!!

We made our goal!!!

Officially we have 89 backers but our community is much larger because many of our donations came from families and groups of friends. I am truly humbled by the swift success of our campaign and my students and I are incredibly grateful for your support. We are excited to get started on this project!

Early on in the campaign I extended an invitation to our backers to come climb a tree with us in Costa Rica. Many of you are newer backers and missed that invitation so let me say it again. COME VISIT US! We would be happy to show you the platforms we are using in our teaching and research and facilitate a tree climb so you can see our fascinating and magical field site for yourself!

I am not sure for how long this site will be up. I will work with the Experiment.com folks to make sure I can continue to reach you all as we complete the project you are all funding. We will be back in the field by May and the cables and cameras should be up and running sometime over the summer. I will send photos and let you know how we are progressing.

If you have people who intended to donate to support our research, please let them know that there is still plenty of time to contribute. We would like to extend our research efforts to drier sites in the region as well so any additional funds we receive will be put towards that effort.

Lastly I would like to apologize for writing so late in the day. I was out all day supporting Sofia Ruiz, an F&M faculty athlete, and fellow F&M Tree Climber backer who was competing (and kicked butt) in a Half Ironman Triathlon today!

Good news all around!

Thank you all again SO VERY MUCH!!!

Best

Sybil

About This Project

The tropical montane cloud forest provides important ecosystem services but is vulnerable to climate change. Within this ecosystem, epiphytes (non-parasitic plants that live on other plants) provide many resources but are vulnerable to drought. Changes in this community will likely affect the entire ecosystem. We will install cable-traverses & time-lapse videos to begin the first long-term monitoring program of this fascinating treetop community.
Blast off!
