Meet the Team; Episode 2

I am Tim. If you look at my picture or follow the link to my CV, I probably do not seem like an “earlycareer researcher” or “new investigator”. But I face the same issues.
I have recently returned to academics after a career doingscientific research in industry. So, like a “newinvestigator”, I do not have the track record of publishing and grant-writingnecessary to get funding from standard sources like (e.g.) the National Science Foundation.
But, since I am well beyond the 5 to 10 year post-PhD window to qualify as “earlycareer”, I’m not eligible for programs (e.g. ResCorp’s Cottrell College Science Awards, or the Department of Energy's Early Career Research Program) that are available to trueyoung investigators.
At this point, Icould simply teach. But I want my students to actually doscience. You can’t teach someone to be aviolin virtuoso without placing a violin in their hands and putting them up on the stage.
I have a career-long (and growing) list of research project ideasthat I will never get to, and I wish to get them started and pass them on. So I have come to you for assistance through Experiment.com.
Please think of it this way: you are not funding me – youare funding Leah, and Drew, and Nina, and…

Thanks for reading and donating.
Tim
