Local presse coverage (Nederlandse tekst bovenaan)

Last Friday, the local newspaper published an interview about the project. During the (telephone) interview the journalist pointed out that he was surprised to find that the individual weighing and exact counting of forager bees has never been done before in scientific bee research. I must agree with him. In all the scientific publications I read in preparation for this project, I never came across this technique being performed. I was surprised, especially because the technique (mini load cells) is available. The better for me though, because this makes my research unique.

About This Project

Bee station & Insect Museum Lieteberg

The aim of this study is to connect foraging activity of honey bees (Apis mellifera) to incoming food supply (nectar and pollen). With the use of sensors, weight trackers and counters, we'll track foraging bees entering or exiting the hive, as well as conditions in the hive. This information will tell us more about how changes in the food supplies and quality, such as from climate change or pesticide intake, can affect foraging, colony growth and colony health.
