Stretch goals: Open access publishing

Dear supporters,

Thank you so much for backing our project. Because of your help, we have reached our initial goal with 15 days left in the campaign. We have added an important stretch goal: money to pay for open access publication fees.

Scientific publication is not free. Most journals exist because university libraries pay thousands of dollars for subscription fees. However, this means that most research is locked behind a paywall. We believe that those who fund research should be able to access it, and so the alternative is publishing in open access journals who keep research readable to all at the cost of a publishing fee.
