You have officially helped fund published research!

Greetings project backers! It is with great pleasure that I announce that we have published the results of the field portion of this experiment. If you wish to read the article in full you can check out the publications page on my blog here. Otherwise we encourage you to check out the articles recently written by Melissa Hogenboom for the BBC, or Carl Zimmer's take for his NYT column, Matter. Thank you for making this research possible through your generous support.

Sincerely,

Kaeli and John

About This Project

Crows have been observed to gather and vocalize around dead members of their own species both anecdotally and scientifically. While the occurrence of these "funerals" is no longer in dispute, their function remains mysterious. Through both field and non-lethal lab techniques we hope to address if American Crows are using "funerals" to learn about dangerous places, people, and what areas of their brain are activated during these experiences.
Blast off!
