Groundbreaking Discovery

The research is complete! We found that the way that we see people depends on the way that we treat them. Participants who gave to the other person subsequently saw them more positively. Not only did the act of giving affect how participants saw the other person, but the amount of money participants gave also improved impressions of the other.

This demonstrates that the way we treat people affects the way that we see them. For example, if you are annoyed with your spouse or a neighbor, by doing something nice for them you will probably become less annoyed with them. On the other hand if you are annoyed with a co-worker, and talk about them negatively to your spouse, you will probably become more annoyed with them.

Therefore, we should be careful with the way that we treat people and talk about them. Be kind.

For those who are interested, my full thesis is attached. When the thesis is published, I will send out the final lab update. Thank you all so much for your support. Your money helped to make a groundbreaking discovery in psychological science. Already, I am working with prominent psychologists to develop a more comprehensive "golden rule model" which has the potential to create a paradigm shift in the psychological community. This is ancient wisdom, and your generosity has contributed to the maturing of our young science.

About This Project

Previous research into cognitive dissonance and self-perception theory suggests that a persons actions can affect their attitudes and impressions of objects(Fazio, 1977). No current research, however, investigates if these phenomena also function as they may relate to people. The current research will investigate the question "If person A is empathetic and/or generous to person B, do person A's impressions of person B become more favorable?"
