We have our collar! Thank you!
Dear Backers,
We have just received our satellite tracking collar- 1 of 6- that we purchased with our experiment.com grant! This collar will be used on a female in a newly discovered pride in our study area. Last week my field team finally caught a glimpse of her 2 cubs. Not only are we excited to learn more about this pride, but this collar is programmed with a line of coordinates called a 'geofence' that will send us a warning when the lions approach the nearest village. The villagers have been very enthusiastic about our warning system and have taken extra measures to protect their livestock when the warnings come.
In addition, when we fit these collars next month we will have a National Geographic film crew with us attaching CritterCams to the lions to video their movements. It is like a Lion Go-Pro! These cameras will record from a lion's-eye-view. The footage will be edited and shared with the community so that we can continue to encourage investment in the local lion prides.
To find out more about our work read the attached newsletter. Also, visit our website if you would like to continue to support our efforts in the field. www.clawsconservancy.org
Thank you all for your support and continued interest!
