today we found a number of new fossil Bison bones!! And lots of mud! It’s only 8 pm and everyone is calling it quits for the night because we are exhausted!
Lots of digging and getting stuck in the mud! I actually have bruises on my feet and ankles from trying to get my boots out of the mud! Arturo found an articulated bison foot! Way more to find!

Mammoth Site scientists, partners, and volunteers are on a mission to understand climate change in the Black Hills during the latest Ice Age. To accomplish this, we are working together to rappel into and excavate a remote cave in the Black Hills of SD. Rapid deposition of sediments in this cave covered the remains of many different animals.
