Recruiting Babies!

Dear Supporters!

It's been quiet here for a while, as I continue to focus on submission of our first publication for 3 and 6 month infant sleep brain activity.  However, over the past few months, we have continued to collect data in both cross-sectional and some longitudinal participants, using the EEG caps, and the leg sensors, bringing me a bit closer toward publishing that work as well.  We hope that participation will pick up in the fall, as the school year is back in session, but part of the funds you provided go toward the cost of recruiting new participants.  To that end, we will be participating at the Baby Expo in Edison, NJ, on Saturday and Sunday, October 15th and 16th.  We would like to invite you to join us, or share with others who might be interested. The organizers are expecting around 500 visitors (mostly expecting or new moms and dads) per day, and we have a few free passes available if you are interested in attending.  We are planning to have two raffle items, one of which is the Owletcare consumer sleep sensor, which was graciously donated by our friend Kurt Workman, CEO of OwletCare.  We are working on a second raffle item and some small items to give to visitors to help keep us in mind as they are looking for fun activities to do with their infant children.

Here are a few photos from our most recent sleep visits.

About This Project

Infancy is an ideal time to study brain rhythms during sleep in humans. During the first year of life, infants' brains are rapidly changing. We’ve been perfecting our methods for two years and now need two additional E4 autonomic sensors to run a study with 15 infants, at three ages, characterizing the changes in two sleep brain rhythms: slow waves and sleep spindles, along with changes in autonomic sleep patterns, and cognitive, motor, and social-emotional development.
