Project Delays

Hello Experiment.com and lovely funders! Thank you so much for all your support. The maritime mechanical engineer undergrad who is partnering with me on this project has just found out he's doing a semester at sea! This is so exciting, but means he needs to move on from this project. I am currently working with him to find a replacement, but I am guessing this project will not fully be finished until next summer. The whole timeline is going to have to be pushed back to next season.

I will post updates when I find a new partner, and am excited to keep working on this project with the help of another peer. Thank you for understanding!

About This Project

University of California Santa Cruz

In response to the climate crisis and fears of food insecurity, regenerative kelp farming is emerging as a popular new method of carbon fixing and sustainable food production. Kelp is versatile, its practical applications ranging from hair products, to pharmaceuticals, to plant protein substitutes. The process of growing kelp is labor-intensive, and smaller farms often lack funding for workers, so I developed a mechanism to improve yield while reducing human labor.
