Good news and (sort of) bad news!

Hello Experimenters!

I have some good news and some not so good news.

First the good -- we've secured some funding for this project! This was certainly a bit of a surprise, but we're terrifically excited to get this effort moving forward. I strongly feel that there are wonderful connections waiting to be identified between our gut microbes and human psychology, and I hope that our work will lead to discoveries capable of helping individuals.

Now the bad (which isn't so bad if you think about it). As we've acquired some funding, we decided it doesn't make sense to keep this campaign going. The are plenty of incredible projects on this website with enormous scientific potential, and they need some help. Here's a couple that I think are particularly exciting! Check them out (remember you will not be charged for you backing of my project as we didn't meet our goals).

Please do not take this announcement as an indication I'm not a believer in crowd-funding for science. I think crowd-funding (and Experiment.com) will be around for a very long time, acting as a way for citizen scientists to get directly involved in research that interests them. We fully intend, once our project progresses a little bit, to find our way back here -- so keep on the lookout.

Again, thank you so much for your support, and if you'd like to follow the progression of the work in our lab, please follow me in twitter -- @PhilStrandwitz. I'll post updates to our project as well as my general thoughts towards science.

Good luck Experimenters and we'll meet again soon!

Phil

Congrats on the grant, Phil! When you're ready to launch a new project, you can count me in as a backer. ✌🏻

About This Project

The human gut is full of bacteria, and in recent years it's been revealed these little creatures are instrumental in our health, with potential to influence mental health.

We are assembling the largest cohort to date (500 people) to survey the connection between human gut bacteria and behavior. Specifically, we are curious if bacteria are associated with depression and anxiety. Help us find out -- please donate or share our story!
