Update from EMU Drones and featured video

Season's greetings from EasternMichigan University and the atmospheric chemistry group! We thought it was timewe updated you are to our progress on the drone project. The last few monthshave been busy with Chris learning to fly our new Phantom 3 and working hard ongetting the sensors we need purchased, circuit design and computer coding. AsOctober marks the end of the ozone 'season' we have not made any ambient measurementswith our sensor array as yet but, we are hoping to use the long winter monthsto perfect the circuit and single board computer interface that we will use andstart our experiments in the spring. Meanwhile the work that you helped to fundwas featured along with Chris as part of the universities TrueEMU campaign thathighlights important work at Eastern Michigan University. Check out the 2minute video below.

There is some good data coming in now. I will update this week with some pictures of the sensor array and the testing setup. I have been working on calibrating the sensors, determining sensitivity to humidity, and resolution.

About This Project

Many people living in or near large cities are subject to poor air quality. Cities like Detroit are among the top ten most polluted in the USA with respect to particulate matter and ozone. The focus of this project is the development of a gas sensor array that will measures toxic gases. We will attach the array to a commercial "drone" to build vertical atmospheric profiles of pollution in the urban area surrounding Detroit, Michigan.

Blast off!
