Awaiting final results

Sample collection from wild pigs, dogs, and cats has been completed! All the ticks have been identified. We are now awaiting final results for pathogens. Thank you to the Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife Disease Study (SCWDS) at the College of Veterinary Medicine - University of Georgia and the entire diagnostic laboratory team. A very special thank you to Professor Michael Yabsley, Dr. Chris Cleveland, Kayla Garrett, and Alec Thompson for all their hard work getting us results that will help Guam and its animals

About This Project

There is an abundant population of ticks on Guam, which can cause devastating illness in animals. Many animals, with close interactions and overlapping environments with people, can serve as sentinels for human disease. The ticks of Guam are known to host at least eight pathogens, of which three are zoonotic. This is a threat to domestic animals, humans, and wildlife populations on Guam.

Blast off!
