Sample Collection Protocol
Phase 1
Sample collection is a key component to paleoenviromental reconstruction. The work starts long before going into the field to collect samples. Identifying the location and determining if the site is currently accessible is the first step to determine viability of the research. Samples also need to be shipped and in this case it means exporting across international borders. To help expedite this process we will be reaching out to researchers from the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Nagoya University. We have also chosen the dates of our trip to limit cost without compromising success due to weather related events.
Phase 2
Set up correspondence with researchers with familiarity of the site due to past research projects. Persons of interest include Hiroyoshi Saano who has done extensive paleontology for this section, Kazuhiro Suzuki who has done geochemistry work for the Precambrian age for the Mino Terrane, and Yao Jianxin a researcher who completed biostratigraphic work of the Permian period. In doing this we hope to gain insight into locating the site, terrain conditions, local resources, and possible collaborators.
Phase 3
Gaining access to the site and abiding by all regional regulation and permiting.High resolution collection of samples will be done in a manor that insures the safety of all participants involved. The goal is to collect samples across the PTr boundary at one meter intervals with an expected total length of one hundred and fifty meters.
