Horse Nation Equine Research Challenge

Categories

Equines have played a huge role in human culture: our partners in travel, warfare, agriculture, sport, and therapy. We have had 6,000 years of history with horses, and only 100 with automobiles. Equine research is essential to developing our understanding of equine care, sport, and therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do challenge grants work?

This challenge is for projects that launch crowdfunding campaigns by May 7th, 2018. Eligible projects must be approved before the launch deadline.

Can I still submit a project?

We are accepting projects on a rolling basis. To participate submit an Experiment project and email support@experiment.com to be considered for the challenge.

Challenge Aims

Equines are studied worldwide to enhance our understanding of horse care, nutrition, performance, fitness, movement, and their interactions with humans. Despite this, and the millions of people who own, work with, and love horses and donkeys, surprisingly little of that research is easily accessible to the public. There are incredible studies out there exploring the athleticism and physiology of horses as they travel hundreds of miles in endurance races, the way rider balance and position influence a horse’s ability to perform, and how the nutritional needs of our horses change with different levels of competition.

We are collaborating with Horse Nation of Nation Media to solicit and help fund research projects that are focused on equines. We want people to learn more about the amazing range of equine research that is out there, and to encourage widespread support for equine research across the world.

Any research project working with equines in any way is invited to submit and join the Horse Nation Equine Research Challenge. If you'd like to chat more about your idea, get in touch at support@experiment.com.

You can begin your project page and submit it using the button below. Submit by April 20th to join the challenge!

Project Eligilibity

Any project conducted on equines of any kind is invited, whether it is exploring behavior, genetics, endocrinology, nutrition, health, exercise, equitation science, or the myriad of other research topics associated with equines. Get in touch with us if you aren’t sure about your idea, by emailing us at support@experiment.com. Interdisciplinary and collaborative projects are welcome, but we request that you and your colleagues commit to sharing the results of your research project publicly – either through Experiment’s lab notes or through publication in an open-access journal.
