More on Galactic Halos
Here is a graphic to help you visualize the different regions in a galaxy. The distances are measured in kiloparsecs. One of these is equal to roughly 3260 light years! In astronomy the distances are so vast that units like this are needed to keep calculations from spiraling out of control! Also, if you are wondering what O and B stars could be, they are simply young, very hot stars that have formed as a result of all of the material concentrated in the galactic disk. Our particular focus in this project are the much older stars in the halo.
