Project ACL x The ACL Club

Hello Project ACL Team!     We are entering week 7 of Project ACL and the girls have learned so much about their personal risk for injury, mastered the correct techniques for jumping and landing, and have improved their athletic skills tremendously. All thanks to your generous support and faith in the vision!     The weekly training isn't easy, but the hard work is absolutely paying off. During each Saturday session, we incorporate plyometric and balance training, followed by a strength training circuit designed to improve athletic performance and correct postural deviations. The girls are smiling as much as they are sweating. It is incredible to see how the group has transformed over the last few weeks.

The group is a diverse and beautiful mix of skills, backgrounds and goals. We have high school athletes that are hoping to perform better next season, middle school athletes who are just beginning their athletic career, and college-bound athletes who are especially interested in maximizing their athletic performance. The skill levels are all over the map, yet I am so encouraged by the way the girls are supporting each other. If someone has mastered a skill, she is quick to help the other girls by offering advice and personal experience. Several girls have even brought along friends who have continued to return week after week.

The most important thing we can teach our young athletes is how to move correctly. Correct movement leads to better athletic performance and dramatically lowers the athlete's risk for injury. In the six short weeks that I have been working with Project ACL, I have seen dramatic improvements in the girls' body awareness and landing technique. They are becoming more conscious of their movements and truly understand how poor technique can lead to devastating injury.

We are making such waves that The ACL Club, a non-profit dedicated to supporting those who have torn their ACL, is joining forces with Project ACL in order to support our research agenda! We have teamed up to design gear inspired by the opportunity that adversity gives us to share our strength.

There are several different designs and colors. See for yourself!  All proceeds go directly to supporting Project ACL and its research initiative. We are so grateful to The ACL Club for their generous support and compassion.  As part of the Project ACL family, now is your opportunity to share the message and support a good cause. Snag a T-shirt for yourself. If you know anyone who has torn their ACL, grab them one, too! Click here to check out the gear.

PS- Fun fact: I played a big role in creating each of the designs.. ..Aaand I don't know how designers do it! After tripping all over myself in photoshop, I think I'm going to stick to science-ing. (Although that square design is PRETTY RAD!)

Until next time,  Liz

About This Project

Despite consistent investigation, the risk factors responsible for non-contact Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury continue to remain ambiguous and prevention programs fail to be effective. The goal of this study is to build a comprehensive profile of the ACL-injured athlete in order to create a better prevention protocol. Once we find out which factors best predict injury, they will be used to create a prediction equation to best identify risk for ACL injury in female soccer athletes.
